What kind of people thrive at Kake?
Kake is built for engineers who are driven, curious, and proactive - the kind who take initiative, ask the right questions, and tackle challenges head-on. Being fully remote means communication is key, whether it’s sharing ideas, problem-solving, or keeping projects moving across different time zones. We work with top-tier, innovative Partners who expect excellence - so the best people at Kake are adaptable, take ownership of their work, and are always looking to level up. If you love pushing the limits of what’s possible and enjoying the ride, you’ll fit right in.
Is Kake a completely remote company?
Yes, Kake is a fully remote company - fully believing it’s not where your table is, but what you bring to the table that matters. We’ve built a strong, diverse community across the globe (30+ countries), and we’re proud to say that remote work at Kake is anything but isolating. Collaboration and connection are at the heart of what we do, and we try to ensure everyone feels like a part of Kake first and foremost, no matter where they’re located or what project they’re working on.
Will I be part of a team or working independently?
You’ll most likely be working as part of a team - often alongside other Kake developers. However, depending on the Partner and project, there may be opportunities where you'll work independently. As every Partner’s needs are different, expectations, work, and team environments will be clarified during the interview process.
Is this full-time, and will I work on one project or multiple?
Kake hires on a full-time, fully committed basis. This means working 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, and being dedicated to a single role at a time. We believe in deep focus and minimizing context switching, so you won’t be juggling multiple projects. Our goal is to provide stable, long-term opportunities where you can fully immerse yourself and do your best work.
What is the typical duration of a contract?
At Kake, we prioritize long-term engagements, with the majority of our projects lasting at least 10+ months or longer. While some shorter projects and opportunities may occasionally arise (which would be discussed upfront), our focus is always on providing stability through extended opportunities. Timeline expectations will be discussed during your process, and we strive to offer extensions whenever possible, based on performance, feedback, and Partner needs.
Is there flexibility in working hours?
Your working hours will be determined by the needs of the project. Most Partners require at least 4-5+ hours of overlap with their time zone for real-time collaboration, though some may have different expectations. While there’s often flexibility in structuring your schedule, the key is aligning with your Partner’s needs. This will be discussed during your process so you have a clear understanding of expectations.
Does Kake provide laptops or work equipment for projects?
For the majority of roles, you are able and expected to use your own setup. However, if a Partner has specific equipment or software requirements, Kake will provide and coordinate what’s needed. Any such details will be clarified during your onboarding process.
How are payments handled, are taxes/commissions deducted?
Payments are made in US Dollars, either once or twice a month based on your preference. You’ll submit invoices through our internal system, and payments will be made directly to your bank account in full and on time. Kake does not withhold any taxes or commissions from your earnings. You will always receive your full gross pay, and it is your responsibility to handle any tax obligations according to your country’s employment laws.
What happens after my contract concludes?
Our contracts typically work on a rolling basis, ensuring continuous, long-term opportunities for our team-members. If your current project does come to an end, we will make every effort to find you a new role that aligns with your skills and experience, based on availability and Partner needs. If no immediate opportunities are available, we will provide notice and time to help you transition as smoothly as possible to your next opportunity.
How does PTO work at Kake and what is the time-off policy?
By nature of being a Contractor, paid vacation, paid time off, and sick days are not included. When setting your desired rate, please keep this in mind. However, you can absolutely take time off (unpaid) with prior approval from your Partner, including for local holidays. Since the majority of our Partners are based in the U.S., whether you work U.S. holidays depends on your Partner's policies, so it’s important to discuss this with your manager ahead of time. Fortunately Kake offers a “Better Me” fund, which many team-members use to not only support personal pursuits and wellbeing, but also to help supplement time off and vacations.
How does Kake support career growth/development?
Kake doesn’t have a one-size-fits-all career path because every person (and every opportunity) is different. Your growth and development depends on the project, the Partner, and your own ambitions. We always want to hear about your dreams and goals, and we’ll work with you to support them in any way possible.
Do you have any tips for preparing for my interview?
The goal isn’t perfection, it’s showing that you respect the interviewer’s time and are taking the opportunity seriously. *1)* Choose the right setting: Take the call somewhere quiet and distraction-free where you can give the conversation your full attention. A desk or home office is ideal. *2)* Be mindful of your background: A clean space helps you appear organized and prepared - and keeps the focus on you. *3)* Dress appropriately: Aim for neat and professional. Even if the company is casual, avoid overly informal clothing like tank tops. *4)* Avoid taking interviews in your car. It may seem convenient, but it signals a lack of preparation and creates unnecessary distractions.
I've heard about "Compassion is Badass" - what is it?
Compassion is Badass is Kake’s boots-on-the-ground social impact initiative, and really our core belief. Through our Compassion is Badass fund, team members can nominate local causes they care about, and Kake sponsors and supports those real-world efforts around the globe. We partner with nonprofits, mutual aid groups, and mission-driven organizations doing work in areas like mental health, education access, emergency support, and safe spaces for kids. Kake believes when you invest in people and show up for your community, that impact extends far beyond tech.
